The Media Hub

Joyce Lange in the old Center for instructional Communication (CIC)
Joyce Lange in the old Center for Instructional
Communication (CIC) then located on the third floor
of the Liberal Arts Administration Building (LA) ca. 1976.

The Media Hub provides multi-media resources for students, faculty and staff. These resources include: technical support and training for equipment in the classroom, professional expertise, and creative consultation on multi-media projects.

Integrating the use of current technology with assessment skills has always been an important element in student assessment at Alverno College.

The early years of assessment, from 1973-1976, utilized 8mm cameras and reel-to-reel projectors to videotape and watch student assessments. Though a bit old fashioned even at the time, Alverno’s Center for Instructional Communications (CIC) and the Alverno Library Media Center (LMC) were responsible for the recording and management of student assessments.

The $426,000 grant from the Kellogg Foundation, made in 1976, helped to fund renovations and expansion to Alverno’s CIC (now known as the Media Hub).  A recording studio, lighting, all new cameras, and audio and editing equipment created new learning opportunities for Alverno students and faculty.

Today, in addition to producing all student assessments, the Media Hub is responsible for providing multi-media resources for students, faculty and staff. These resources include: technical support and training for equipment in the classroom, professional expertise, and creative consultation on multi-media projects.
